June 19the 1854
Dear brother, I have taken this opertunity to let you know that we are all well exsept Joseph has the chills. It is lamentable times now. The Flucks are in the cuntry and thar has been a grate many deaths about. Mr Colwell and Mrs McGines died last Thursday night and Friday morning and Mr McGinesss child dide a week a go Your boy Charley dide last Sunday night. There is a great deal of sicknes in the country. Ant Peggy Davis is sick with the Flucks. the rest of the neighbors are well. I am going to scool Mothers crop looks very well she has got her wheat cut but I beleive that JakĀ is about to give out with the rumatick pains. I have been expectin[g] a leter but hav not receive one. I think that you might have writen to me June 2nd. Mother received your leter monday dated 4th of June We have had a very wet Spring but we are suffering for rain now the wether looks very dry. I have sustĀ got home from shool and have taken some honey and have atte a very good taste of it we have fine time of it in a Swiming evry day we have about twenty scolars but the most of them are studeing the languages.

Joseph has got the chills and looks very bad. Ant Peggy is very bad yet and is hardly expeced to live and uncle William Davis has got the Flucks but not very bad. Broth[er] pleas writ to me and tell us how you are pleased with the country and tell me when you are with the country. excuse my bad writing and spelling for I am in a hury and the bugs bothers me that mutch I cant write. All the rest send their love to you and I send my love to all my friends there J.P McC
