Left to Right: Tiffany, Sharon, Molly, Jessica, Sara, DebbieLee, Emily

Sharon Byrd

Special Collections Librarian

I work with faculty, students, staff, and outside scholars doing research with materials in the Special Collections housed in the Smith Rare Book Room.

Most Memorable Library Moment: Much earlier in my career (I’ve been here almost 40 years now), I was working with a faculty member on a course related to the Middle Ages. One day, a student came up to me and asked about “childbirth in the Middle Ages” so I immediately began telling her where to find all of our library’s resources on medieval history. She looked puzzled by her facial expression but didn’t say anything, so I picked up on the cue and asked what the matter was, was this not what she was looking for? She repeated that she was looking for “childbirth in the middle ages,” but then added, “you know, women in their mid-40s.”

Sara Swanson

Assistant Director

I facilitate the work that the ASCC team does as well as work toward creating more pathways and opportunities for collaboration between the library’s various sections.

Most Memorable Library Moment: still pondering…

DebbieLee Landi

College Archivist and Records Management Coordinator

I provide vision and leadership to capture, acquire, and share college history. I create and implement the college records management program. I acquire manuscripts and books for Archives and Special Collections and provide research assistance and instruction using the resources in the department.

Most Memorable Library Moments: Serendipitous ones!

Molly Kunkel

Digital Archivist

I acquire, preserve, and make accessible born-digital and digitized Davidson College archival content and engage in outreach activities to promote the use of these collections.

Most Memorable Library Moment: Walking into the Rare Book Room on my first day of work— at that point, I realized how many wonderful resources we have in our collections.

Jessica Cottle

Justice, Equality, and Community Archivist, 2017-2020

I work with faculty, staff, students, and community groups to develop new archival resources and programming centered on issues of justice and equality. I am particularly interested in the gaps in the archival record —both in digital and physical formats.

Most Memorable Library Moments:  It’s when students come to us with project ideas like Davidson Disorientation, the World AIDS Day exhibition, and the on-going student activism timeline and being able to support their vision and help them think through larger questions about collective memory and representations of agency. Seeing the outcomes of those projects have been the most memorable moments for me!

Tiffany Camp Johnson

Research Librarian for Digital Scholarship

I partner with faculty, staff and students to foster research and instructional support related digital scholarship resources, activities and tools.

Most Memorable Library Moment: Exploring the Music Library with my colleagues and setting an ambitious goal to listen to the entire CD collection starting with accession 001- Gustav Mahler.

Emily Privott ’19

Endowed Archival Intern

I provide support to faculty, staff, students, and patrons working with the records of Davidson College, rare books, and manuscripts. I assist with organizing our manuscript, photograph, and artifact collections, answering research questions, digitizing materials, and shelving and filing.

Most Memorable Library Moment: Getting rehired by the Archives! I am a recent graduate of Davidson and worked in this department during my time as a student. I am excited and fortunate to continue my work here now as a Davidson alum!
