Conservation is essential in preserving the recreational and ecological opportunities at Lake Norman State Park. Duke Energy and Lake Norman State Park officials are concerned with protecting the natural landscape surrounding Lake Norman and preserving the habitat that was created by the lake. Lake Norman State Park was developed to be as natural as possible–an escape from the built environment (Cite Duke Park Superintendent Hawkins)– and officials as well as citizens in the area are working to maintain the landscape as much as possible. These projects include dredging, creating habitat for waterfowl, and cleaning up debris.
