This semester the library has a variety of new digitization equipment available for use by our patrons. The most recent acquisition is an end-user overhead book scanner, available across from the vending machines. This new scanner, a KIC Click, will allow users to scan books, periodicals, photos and other materials face up, two pages at a time, and save the scans directly as digital files on flash drives, Google Docs accounts, the Internet and even smart phones and tablets. Supported file formats include PDF, JPEG, PNG, RTF, and even text to speech audio files. Scanning using the KIC is quicker than our traditional flatbed scanners, and more environmentally and economically friendly than copying to paper. We are still learning to use the device ourselves, so come on by, give it a try and let us know what you think.

In addition to the new scanner, the library has created a Digitization Lab located on the second floor outside of the Archives. The lab contains the digitization equipment that needed to be moved from the basement of Chambers to accommodate other ITS initiatives. The lab, which is only available to Davidson students, staff, and faculty, provides equipment for:
◦ High speed paper scanning
◦ Digitization of 35 mm slides, LP’s, and cassettes
◦ Conversion of VHS to DVD
◦ Duplication of VHS materials
The use of the lab is self-service and is accessible Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 5 PM. You may contactthe Archives at 704-894-2632 for access.
