Updates and helpful hints

Update on our Swank Motion Pictures movie contract:  We put 50 streaming movies on reserve during the fall semester.  Faculty and student reviews of the service have been positive, citing the ease and flexibility of showing films or having students watch on their own.  If you are using a feature film in your course, check with Jean Coates about Swank!  She can tell you if your film is in the Swank catalog and set up the Moodle link for you.

If you’re still trooping to the library to read and copy articles from print periodicals, remember that there’s an alternative.  The interlibrary loan staff will scan and send the article to you, even from journals the library owns.  Let us save you some time and make your life easier!  Faculty, staff, and students are all encouraged to use this service.

This is Copyright Week at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and their site is well worth checking out.  Their theme is “taking copyright back,” consistent with the EFF’s purpose of “defending your rights in the digital world.”  They’re discussing a different copyright principle each day; so far, they’ve covered transparency and building and defending a robust public domain.  Today is open access day.  Friday will feature fair use.  Take a look!
